Christians active in political pressure groups in the UK have welcomed anti-sleaze proposals outlined by the Home Secretary, but say that political corruption is not limited to financial dishonesty. They explained that, even if politicians were made financially accountable, this doesn't solve the problem of husbands cheating on their wives or of party whips dragooning MPs' consciences in the voting lobbies against their will.
However, they agree, the new Government's promised assault on financial misbehaviour and the misuse of privileges is a good start in the long haul of cleaning up Britain's public life.
