Bucharest - Arrest of Missionary

Bulletin came April 22, 1997

"We have another missionary brother, Chuck [Name removed], who is imprisioned in Bucharest. Chuck was working with children in Romania. He was leaving there. He was preparing to depart to attend a Soul Winning Workshop in Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA when he was arrested for no reason. No charges were recorded.

His sister, Cindy, e-mailed yesterday telling there was silence on his status. All she knows is that under Romanian law they should have released him the next day or charge him with a crime.

Today Chuck [Name removed] is still in prision in Bucharest. He is there without being charged with any crime. Romanian law states that he was to be released Thursday, or charged.

His sister, Cindy e-mailed the following update.

"No good news. They have been granted an additional 30-day extension to hold Chuck pending investigation. No charges have been pressed. We have heard that this situation may not be directed at Chuck personally, but that he is part of a much larger plot. It seems Romania has gotten bad publicity following American interest in adoptions and they intend to better their image. Thanks for keeping Chuck in your prayers and please continue to remember him."
